The Essence Dance Line

AUDITION INFORMATION
The Essence Dance Line combines technical, rhythmic, and dynamic dance styles to enhance the Clark Atlanta University Mighty Marching Panthers Band. The Essence Dance Line performs with the marching band at football games, parades, exhibitions, University programs, and other band and community appearances.

***Street parking is available (Do NOT park in the stadium parking lot).***
***Do NOT bring any valuables in the audition hall.***
***Do NOT leave any valuables in your vehicle.***
The University, Music Dept., and Band Program will not assume liability or responsibility for immobilized, booted, damaged, or towed vehicles.
AUDITION ELEMENTS
FUNDAMENTAL ASSESSMENT (Session 1)
This workshop will evaluate you on the fundamental movements of dance and HBCU marching band show style.
Fundamentals include but are not limited to: struts, turns, jumps, leaps, kicks, splits, etc.
The fundamental assessment will account for 25% of your final evaluation.
CHOREOGRAPHY SHOWCASE I (Session 2 - Audition Staff-taught)
This workshop will teach a halftime-esque performance piece(s).
Your retention and delivery of choreography will account for 25% of your final evaluation.
CHOREOGRAPHY SHOWCASE II (Session 3 - Individual Candidate Solo)
This workshop will allow you to showcase your creativity and individual flair. You will be expected to perform your original choreography for our panel of performance judges. Please see below for all requirements concerning your individual solo choreography.
Choreography must be AT LEAST 1 minute, but not longer than 2 minutes in length.
You must provide your own music.
A general auxiliary cord will be provided for your connecting use.
It may also be helpful to have a blue tooth capable device.
All music must be non-vulgar radio ready versions.
The fundamental assessment will account for 25% of your final evaluation.
INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATE INTERVIEW (Session 4)
The interview session will allow for you to better understand the Clark Atlanta University Mighty Marching Panther Band and The Essence Dance Line. It also allows you to present your personality, talents, and strengths on how your presence will compliment The Essence Dance Line.
The interview session will account for 25% of your final evaluation.
New members of the 2022 – 2023 Edition of the Essence Dance Line are determined by a comprehensive final assessment of the aforementioned factors and are evaluated by a combination of marching band staff and artistic professionals. All selections are final. While general feedback may be given, selection choices and scores will not be discussed with any applicants, parents, or previous coaches of the applicants.
IMPORTANT AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
ARRIVAL TIME
You should plan to arrive 15-20 minutes PRIOR TO the posted call time to allow time for any personal preparation.
PLEASE NOTE:
Each audition session will begin promptly at the specified time.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure you are in place PRIOR TO the start of every session.
You may not be granted access to audition hall if not in place after a session has begun.
REGISTRATION ITEMS
- $10.00 CASH audition fee, payable at registration. Proof of your receipt will grant entry to the audition hall.
1 - PRINTED 8 X 10 head shot (clear, non-pixelated selfies are acceptable).
Pictures bigger or smaller than 8 x 10 WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
PLEASE NOTE: Submitted pictures WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
